Match v The School – Friday June 12th
The Lynxes played the 2026 match against the School not on Big Side but on the neighbouring ground of Sissinghurst C.C. In spite of the pressures of exams, James McConnochie (Head of Sport) produced a team of enthusiastic students to take on the Lynxes, who had managed to assemble a total of 13 players, including the stalwart, Tim Barlow, who last played for the Club several decades ago.
Due to the Sissinghurst club requiring the pitch for an early evening game it was the agreed that the match would be played with a 25 over per side format.
Batting first, the Lynxes proceeded quite cautiously against the School’s opening bowlers (W. Sprent and J. Addis) but Joe Haberland-Schindler then led a big hitting charge with a score of 78 not out. He was well supported by Chris Hoggard’s innings of 39 runs. The School fielded well and took some good catches in the deep but quite a number of hits from these two batsmen went for the maximum as the score advanced to a total of 174 for 5 wickets off the allotted overs.
After lunch (provided by the School), Guy Haberland-Schindler and Tom Laver opened the Lynxes attack, but it was the later bowlers (Tom Cullen, Max Wookey and Carlin Smith) aided by good fielding, who did the damage as the School were dismissed for 134 runs in the 23rd over. O. Best made a good 48 for the School with the next best scorers being B. Hagan (15), H. Kingston (16) and B. Clift (19).
Lynxes v Bully Boys – Friday July 10th
The Lynxes won the 26th match played between these two teams when Sissinghurst C.C. provided excellent facilities on another blistering hot day.
The Lynxes batted first and, after Captain James Morgan was dismissed early, the Laver brothers dominated, with Henry being stumped after scoring 38 and Tom retiring after reaching his maiden 100. The Bignell brothers (Benjie and Hamish) and Dave Morgan all added quick runs before the innings ended with a total of 213 runs scored off the allotted 30 overs. Will Wood was the best of the bowlers (3 for 43).although Owen Dearn was extremely unlucky not to have taken more wickets with his flighted off breaks.
The Bully Boys found batting difficult against the pace of James Morgan and Hamish Bignell (who finished with 6 wickets for 21) and they quite quickly lost their front 8 batsman for under 60 runs in reply. Louis Cox and Will Wood then enjoyed themselves with a flurry of hitting and, helped by a generous amount of extras, the Bully Boys reached a total of 154 before the umpire’s finger went up again to bring the innings to an end after only 21 overs.
The Lynxes look forward to celebrating their 80th Anniversary next year.
