Old Cranbrookian Alan Chang, known for his significant role at Revolut, has recently made headlines in the energy sector with the launch of Fuse Energy, a company he co-founded with Charles Orr. Fuse has made a bold entrance into the UK's energy market, with an emphasis on offering the most affordable electricity tariffs in the country. This initiative aligns with Alan's vision of providing customers with more accessible and sustainable electricity options, challenging the traditional norms of the energy market.
The company has strategically acquired and currently operates solar farms in Southern England and a wind farm in Scotland. These assets form the backbone of their 'cut out the middleman' business model, ensuring transparency and efficiency in their supply chain. Fuse's commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by their policy of reinvesting 100% of their profits into renewable projects globally, with a target to build a pipeline of 2GW of solar energy by 2025.
In addition to residential services, Fuse is also focusing on the commercial sector, offering the cheapest commercial solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in the UK. This initiative aims to assist businesses in reducing their carbon footprint, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.
Backed by prominent investors like Balderton Capital, Lakestar, Accel, Lowercarbon Capital, Creandum, Ribbit and Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, along with guidance from Dermot Nolan, former CEO of Ofgem, Fuse is well-positioned for growth and innovation in the energy sector. Their team comprises a mix of technology veterans and former energy industry executives, reflecting a fusion of expertise crucial for their ambitious plans.
In summary, Alan's educational journey, which includes his time at Cranbrook School, has led him to significant roles in fintech at Revolut and now in the renewable energy sector with Fuse. Alan's approach is reshaping traditional energy supply models while demonstrating a dedication to environmental sustainability and customer-centric services.
