In a historic moment for esports, Grant Rousseau, an Old Cranbrookian, led Team Falcons to triumph at the inaugural esports World Cup. After 12 months of rigorous preparation and an intense eight weeks of competition, Grant expressed his pride:
"There has been no prouder a moment in my career as to stand on stage yesterday to receive the Esports World Cup Trophy from HRH The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia."
Reflecting on his journey from the London finance world to the top of esports, Grant said:
"But for me personally, it represents the dream I set when I entered this industry. Completely gambling on leaving the London finance world, and chase a goal of lifting some esports trophies."
He acknowledged the unwavering support of his family throughout this journey, adding:
"I’m so thankful to those around me, especially to my family, who’ve done nothing but support me through this massive grind and numerous sacrifices over the last 8 years to reach the top."
In an emotional statement, Grant celebrated the achievement:
"I’m a world champion... and I cannot quite believe I’m saying this but, Team Falcons are your Esports World Cup Champions." He continued, "We set a goal and we made it happen. We can forever say that we are esports world champions… Just unreal."
This victory is not only a personal achievement for Grant but also a significant milestone for the esports industry, marking Team Falcons' place in history as the first-ever Esports World Cup champions. Grant's journey from finance to esports serves as an inspiring tale of following one’s passion and achieving greatness against the odds.
