On 18 September 2024, Brigadier David Pack, an Old Cranbrookian and a senior figure in the British Army, participated in a historic parachute drop over Arnhem, Netherlands. This event marked the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, one of WWII's largest airborne operations. Brigadier Pack, alongside international paratroopers, honoured the legacy of those who fought in the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. The commemorative jump was part of a larger weekend of tributes, including memorial services and wreath-laying ceremonies across Arnhem.
The drop took place at Ginkel Heath, the original drop zone during the operation, where over 12 allied nations sent paratroopers to partake in the event. The commemorations, attended by veterans and dignitaries, highlighted the bravery and sacrifice of the paratroopers who aimed to liberate the region during WWII.
This symbolic jump, led by Brigadier Pack, is a reminder of the strong ties between past and present military personnel, commemorating the heroism that shaped history. The anniversary weekend, running from 20-22 September, includes services at key WWII memorial sites in Arnhem, attended by thousands of visitors from around the world.
