Mark Tappin attended Cranbrook School from 1976 to 1978 as a day student. His time at the School was brief, ending unexpectedly due to family circumstances, but the experience left a lasting impression. Nearly five decades later, Mark returned to Cranbrook with his wife as part of a wider trip revisiting the places where their lives began—Italy for her, and England for him.
On 14 July 2025, Mark visited the School for the first time in 47 years. He was warmly welcomed by Head, David Clark, who presented him with a copy of Cranbrook School: The First 5 Centuries by Peter Allen—a fitting memento for someone reconnecting with his roots. Touring the grounds, Mark reflected on how much had changed since the late 1970s, yet how familiar the spirit of the place remained.
After leaving Cranbrook, Mark emigrated to Australia, where he went on to build a remarkable career in real estate. He began as a cadet with Noel Jones Real Estate in Melbourne, quickly gaining a reputation for his strong relationship-building skills and attention to detail. His leadership potential was clear, and over time he became managing director of several companies, overseeing teams of up to 250 staff, both nationally and internationally.
Mark later established his own firm, Rand Corporation, which became a dominant and highly successful agency in Melbourne’s Bayside area. His sharp market insight, extensive industry network and ability to identify opportunities have earned him widespread respect in the sector. Today, with over 40 years of experience behind him, Mark remains active in real estate through his advisory work with Alta Property Group.
Although his time at Cranbrook was short, Mark’s recent visit was a powerful reminder of the role the School played in the early stages of his journey. His story is one of resilience, reinvention and long-distance connection, and we were delighted to welcome him back.
