OC to Join Aon as Global Chief Executive

John Neal's journey from Cranbrook School to leading global roles at Lloyd’s of London & Aon

Cranbrook School is proud to celebrate the success of Old Cranbrookian John Neal, from the Class of 1983, who has recently announced he will be taking on a new challenge as the Global Chief Executive of Reinsurance and Global Chairman of Climate Solutions at Aon, a leading professional services firm.

John joined Cranbrook School as a boarder in 1978, beginning his journey in School Lodge during Year 9 before moving to Rammell House. Known for his leadership skills, John became a School Prefect and left Cranbrook with the qualities that would later define his remarkable career.

Since being appointed Chief Executive of Lloyd’s of London in 2018, John has steered the 336-year-old institution through a period of significant global challenges, including the pandemic, Brexit and Russia’s war in Ukraine. Alongside navigating these events, John led a major cultural reform programme at Lloyd’s, tackling long-standing issues and ensuring the organisation continues to modernise and lead the global insurance market.

In his new role at Aon, John will focus on addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change, working on solutions that will have a global impact. Aon described his appointment as a pivotal step in strengthening their reinsurance and climate divisions.

Cranbrook School congratulates John Neal on his outstanding achievements and is proud to see an OC making such an impact on the global stage. His success is a testament to the values and foundations instilled at Cranbrook, and we look forward to seeing the contributions he will continue to make in his new role.
