Class of 1994

It was great to welcome back Rob Casserley to Cranbrook School, where he reminisced about his remarkable ascent of Everest in 2012 and his recent attendence at the Class of 1994's reunion in London. His visit highlighted his extraordinary achievements and deep connection to his roots.

Dr. Rob Casserley, a UK-trained emergency and family physician now based in Québec, Canada, has summited Everest an impressive eight times. Notably, he was the first Westerner to double-summit Everest twice in one week, achieving this feat in 2007 and again in 2010. His experiences on Everest are vast, including guiding numerous climbers, participating in high-altitude rescues and even serving as a cameraman for Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Everest expedition in 2008.

Rob's 2012 expedition was particularly memorable. Alongside climbers like Becky Bellworthy, he summited Everest, contributing to a record-breaking team of young British climbers. Despite facing harsh conditions, including severe queues and extreme cold, Rob narrowly avoided frostbite during the descent.

Beyond mountaineering, Rob has also undertaken other significant challenges, such as rowing across the Atlantic in 2010. His diverse adventures and his dedication to philanthropy, including raising funds to rebuild a school in Nepal after the 2015 earthquake, underline his commitment to making a positive impact.

Rob's story is one of resilience, adventure and a relentless pursuit of excellence, making his return to Cranbrook a fitting tribute to his inspiring journey.
